GENKI: Covert Dock
One of the best crowdfunding campaigns in terms of communication, meeting deadlines and overall experience! The device is well-designed, build quality is excellent and the deadlines have been met within a very fair margin of error. You can definitely see that this company already had experience developing and releasing a product. If they release future campaigns I would definitely consider backing those (given that I have a use for the product of course 😁)
My wife and myself both have a Nintendo Switch console. The reason for this is because I wanted to run homebrew and I didn't want my wife to suffer every time a software update breaks the entire switch. Also I didn't want her to have to fiddle with the RCM jig + payload injection thing every time... But because we have a single TV we also have a single dock. I sold my dock to a colleague since I had no use for it.
Any time I would travel with the switch with the idea of hooking it up to a screen I dragged the whole dock and all the cables with me. So usually this meant a shopping bag full of cable mess. Not ideal.
The Genki Covert Dock seemed almost too good to be true. When the product was announced the Gallium Nitride (GaN) chargers were hot and new and this product integrated both the hardware of the Nintendo Switch Dock as well as the charger in a housing that is smaller than the original charger. Absolutely bonkers!
Absolutely! It matches all the specs of the original dock + charger and the only thing you need to bring (except for the USB-C cable) is the dock and your switch. The dock is so small that it actually fits in my Switch pouch! I've used the Covert Dock more often than the original dock. And as a bonus it works with most USB-C devices like laptops, phones etc. In general I even get video output as well. Keep in mind that the maximum USB PD output it 15 volts at just a few amps, so don't expect to use a 15 inch MacBook Pro with this thing all day. All it will do is slow down the battery drain 😅.
The product is great, communication during the campaign was great. The item was received in a pretty box and everything just works! I'm really happy that I backed this campaign! If you are looking for a nice way to bring your switch and hook it up elsewhere: this is it!
